On Friday, January 26, 2018, 210 women from various backgrounds; politicians, public sector, private sector, entrepreneurs, women of civil society and women of the media gathered at CRRAE-UEMOA in Plateau to take part in the restitution and launching of the African women leaders’ network.The purpose of the launch was to enable national ownership of the results of the High-Level Forum on Women Leaders for the Transformation of Africa held in New York from May 31 to June 2, 2017; this forum had resulted in the launch of the " African Women Leaders Network " where women leaders agreed to build and maintain an inclusive network of diverse women and young women in leadership positions in all sectors of society and to invite the next meeting of the Forum in Addis Ababa in February 2018.In Africa, women are subjected to discriminatory practices that keep them in a vulnerable situation.Their limited access to land, in a continent where the majority of the population depends on agriculture, reduces their access to credit and their capacity to undertake sustainable economic activities to generate income.Although she was also present at the official opening of the 9EI Africa Regional Conference on 6 November, Camara stressed that she felt compelled to come and be among the women: “I will be here tomorrow, as planned.But I could not stay away today; today is the women’s day and I had to come and be with my sisters!They hold only 18 percent of agricultural lands and are not better off in administrations.
“With such an illustrious and wide-ranging professional career behind her, there is no reason why Camara could not one day become Ivory Coast’s first female President!

The Women’s Roundtable received the triennial report on regional gender equality activities and was presented with the key findings and recommendations from the 10-year evaluation report on the AWEN, and on sub-regional women’s networks (RESAC, SAWEN, WAWEN and WNEA).
” Her presence was deeply appreciated by the roundtable’s participants, since Camara is not only a former teacher, but also an alumni of the pilot project launched in 1999, whichled to the establishment of the EI African Women in Education Network (AWEN) Camara currently holds a key ministerial portfolio.
She is also the first women General Secretary of a political party in Ivory Coast.
